We hadn't had Oro out for a while because I wasn't sure how my dad felt about taking the small chance of infecting the other pets w/Oro's ear mites. It's a small chance because I ran a test & all the ones I found were dead, but that doesn't mean they all are, necessarily, until a month after treatment w/Revolution. Last night, mom held Oro in the living room. I could tell that Maggie was purposefully ignoring him again, so I made her look at him. She didn't like seeing him, but didn't hiss!
Today, somehow, my door got open. When I found it, I yelled that Oro may have gotten out. He heard me call him & came back in! Smart cat!

Oro introduced to a toy
By the way, these pix are from the 2nd day. Also, my family has had many cats, so we've had plenty of experience getting cats adjusted.
I think he's kind of cradling it in a way.

He's actually yawning while stretching, but it looked like he was pushing it away.

"What's this?"

His 1st time introduced to a toy.

Oro's 1st couple days inside
2nd day: his 1st time on the windowsill.

He eats & drinks more than any cat I've known! I'm giving him free food for now. He's 11 pounds, which is 1 pound too much. I'll check his weight sometime in the next wk or so & determine if I need to control his food. If he doesn't gain more weight, I'll continue giving him free food.
His 1st day inside, I brought Maggie in the room, holding her. I stood right in front of the door. He was sleeping. She hissed. We left. The 2nd day, yesterday, I took her in again. He was awake, but didn't mind her as much as she minded him. I was holding her & we got much closer w/o her hissing. She didn't like it when she wasn't hissing, ofc.

I'm teaching him to be affectionate. I put him on my chest & pet him a lot & he eventually lays down. He licked me! I've been waiting for that. He didn't stay on me the whole night.

Looking at a cat on the other side of the door. In the pic, you can't see the reflection of the other cat on the floor. 1 of them hissed, but idk which. This was his 2nd night inside.

He's right in front of the door now. He hasn't figured out the function of a mirror!

He found the fish. He's staring at it in my aquarium, which is across the room.

The 2nd night inside, he makes progress moving towards the door. Here, he's just past the foot of my bed.

Oro found the birds.

Again, Maggie trying to ignore Oro.

Mom held Oro for a bit in the living room to get adjusted to the house & pets. I think most of the time, Maggie, my baby, tried to ignore him as if it would make him go away!

Oro's 1st night, he slept on the floor. We got a collar for him that has pheremones in it. Pheremones are the human imitation of the scent that the mother cat gives to comfort her kittens. The human imitation of it is used to calm cats in stressful situations. This is the 1st time we've used it. He's not neutered yet, although, he will be in a couple wks, hopefully. Male cats tend to spray more when intact. To prevent that, we got the collar w/pheremones. I was able to test him for ear mites, external parasites. He has some. We gave him medicine. We need to keep him in a room, in this case, it's mine. This is so that he & our other 3 cats can adjust to each other's smell & to prevent the mites from spreading.

Oro transitioning from outside to inside
I've decided to add Oro's adjustment to our family to my blog so that people can learn how cats adjust. While each cat is different, the adjustment is similar.
Oro demonstrating "soft paws." See the blue things sticking out of his paw? Those are them. Soft paws are claw covers. They were invented by a veterinarian as a humane alternative to delcawing, which actually removes part of the bone of the toe. The soft paws come in different colors, including clear. I wanted colored ones so I could find them easier if they got out of the package. Be careful w/the glue! I had to soak my hands to get it off me.

Oro enjoying cat heaven: a fan blowing A/C around the room, instead of heat & humidity, a bed, instead of the grass or pavement. Mom came up w/that.

The view from my bedroom 1 night.

1st pic of his eyes!

I'm not sure why this is underlined, but oh well. This is the 1st pic of Oro. 1 of the 1st days we had him. We kept him outside until we could afford to take him to the vet.

How He Loves Us
Oro is the new cat that adopted us recently. He was jumping up on the windowsill on the outside of our house. Our cats are on the inside of the window sill a lot. It's really made our cats mad. I went out & befriended it. My cat, Maggie, watched me from the window & was mad. It was a slightly different mad than when I was inside. She wasn't hissing much, but her face had a different look on it that I can't explain. When I went inside & picked her up, she was so happy! I now know that if she sees me giving attention to a cat that she doesn't know, she gets really jealous! When I was petting her while we were both looking out at Oro, she was still upset, but, again, it wasn't the same mad as when I'm out with Oro.
Maggie's jealousy reminded me of the song, "How He Loves Us." The 1st couple lines of the song are, "He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane." I was singing these 2 lines for the next couple of days. For some reason, I didn't let the message that God was trying to send sink in until a few days ago, when I read a note on here from a friend, part of which was about God's simplicity & majesty.

school situation
I wasn't going to post this since I put it on fb, but a friend told she looked here for it instead of on there. I found out this wk that my appeal was accepted at the very last minute! Sometimes, I think God likes to do that. I'll never be in full time school again. The most I'll take is 8 credit hrs if I get certain scholarships. If not, I'll take 6 credit hrs in order to get loans. I'm graduating next summer!

God's provision
Apparently, being awarded money doesn't mean my appeal was accepted. The plan now is for me to stay in my classes. If the appeal isn't accepted by 7/12, the school will drop my classes. I'll get my professors to sign a paper letting me back in the class without having to pay the $75 for non-payment. Hopefully, that'll give enough time for the appeal to be accepted. If it's not accepted, I'll be screwed. I'm just trusting that God'll provide.
My parents got a free car in good condition, so we now have 2 cars. Someone I know paid for the materials I need for 2 classes. I looked on the school's library online & found the book for my photoshop class for free. I just downloaded the free 30 day trial version of photoshop for that class. Hopefully, by then, my financial aid will come through & I'll be able to afford to buy the student version from the school bookstore. God's been providing just what we need at the last minute! PTL! Now we need dad to get a job.
Yesterday, I was driving in some kind of heavy traffic. A thought came to me, whether from me or from God. If God's provided my the materials I need for all my classes & a car so that dad has transportation to a future job while I drive my car to school, why wouldn't God get my appeal to be accepted? It's so logical. He wouldn't provide us with the other things & leave us hanging with a bunch of debt from school if the appeal's not accepted.
Plz keep my family in your prayers. Thanks!
